Alphas Season 2 Premiere

Alphas was an interesting show in season 1. It had a great cast of characters and some interesting stories. I was curious whether or not it could keep up the quality in season 2. So, let’s check out the season premiere of season 2 and see what’s going on.

At the end of season 1, Dr. Rosen went live across the world and announced the existence of Alphas. We start in season 2 with Dr. Rosen in an psychiatric ward. Cameron and Bill are police officers  who get caught up in a supermarket robbery by a gang of Alphas. They manage to capture a young woman who has some sort of control of electricity. This leads them to an Alpha containment facility where rogue Alphas have a chip inserted into their brain to control them. Cameron and Bill find Gary in there. A jail break attempt leads to a hostage situation which sets up the way to bring everyone back together.

The jail break gets Dr. Rosen out of the psych ward and a full pardon. In return, Rosen agrees to bring the old gang back together as long as he has actual control of the team, including determining what happens to the Alphas they capture. And then we find out that Dr. Rosen’s daughter is in with the bad guys. Which, of course, leads us to wonder if she is bad or they aren’t so bad.

What I liked was the team getting back together. Once everyone was back, it was great. I like that it looks like we are going to have a longer term story line with the escaped Alphas, rather than just an Alpha of the week. What I didn’t like was the fact that they almost reset the members back to where they were before they joined Dr. Rosen’s team. It’s almost as if the good guys can’t use their abilities well (or for good) unless Dr. Rosen holds their hand. And the electricity girl’s powers were confusing.  I still don’t know how she projected the video on the screens. Overall it was a decent premiere of season 2, but it felt more like an introduction for new viewers than a continuing story for those that returned. And I can understand that. I’m giving the show a pass for this episode since I’d love to see more viewers, but am cautious of what’s going to happen moving forward.
